Look and Learn back in business

25 years after it disappeared off the newsagent’s shelves, Look and Learn, the children’s illustrated magazine is back in business as a subscription only publication. Look and Learn was a general knowledge magazine that due to its patronage of the very best of late 20th century British illustrators and its grown-up writing style appealed to adults as much as to kids.

Peter Donnelly Smoke Break

Of course we all try to learn from the greats, but that might just be going a metaphor and brushstroke a tad too far.. ‘allegedly’.

The 15th International Sketchcrawl drawing marathon took place on the 25th of August. A Sketchcrawl can be done in groups or individually ; “turn up at a pre-arranged meeting place at an agreed time and sketch the local area, You may move about together or on your own within the specific area. Then get together again towards the end and look at each other’s sketchbooks. Then afterwards post on your blog or normal place where you post your work and reference in the Sketchcrawl Forum.” keep an eye on the forum for upcoming Sketchcrawl’s.

Chris Haughton & People Tree

IGI member Chris Haughton, recently listed by TIME magazine as part of their DESIGN 100, talks to SCAMP about his illustration & design work for the Fair trade company People Tree in Japan.

People Tree produce gifts and clothing through groups and projects set up to employ minorities or disabled individuals in the developing world who are without access to social welfare. Some of the projects set up help women who may have been divorced through domestic abuse or disabled individuals who would not be able to earn money outside of their family. We have made different products together from t-shirts and dresses to bags and stationery.
