Thanks to Mario for pointing this one out
For the last 25 years David Barsalou has examined over 30,000 comic books (a kind of obsession) to find the cartoon images Lichtenstein used in his work.
The Lichtenstein Project compares over 60 of Roy Lichtenstein’s paintings.
Though in art/history books I always read that Lichtenstein best-known artworks are relatively close, but not exact, copies of comic-book panels (a subject he largely abandoned in 1965) after Barsalou’s deconstruction I find quite amazing the level of similarities!!!

English illustrator, Paul Slater’s solo exhibition of his eccentric new paintings will run in London’s Medici Gallery in Cork Street from Friday 2nd to Thursday 22nd November. Take a tour through the paintings on offer along with a short biography on the Medici web site. Paul is a regular visitor to Ireland where he lectures on the subject of illustration at NCAD.
Very nice interview with Nerosunero (AKA Mario Sughi) on Paintalicious.
Mario is a digital Cartoonist/Illustrator from Italy but who has lived in Ireland for quite a considerable time.
If something is happening in Dublin, no doubt Mario will be there, a great addition to Illustration scene here. This coincides with an exhibition in the DozGallery in Milan.

Play Pen is a great new book full of the work of contemporary illustrators such as Marc Boutavant and Sara Fanelli.

Continuing on the children’s book theme, check out the great title on this book, apparently it’s out of print now. Pity…

Artist and Illustrator Colm Mac Athlaoich has an exhibition opening today and running until November 4th at Gallery Number One, Dublin. The exhibition will be comprised of his profile illustrations for the Sunday Tribune and Mongrel magazine, as well as some never before seen pieces.
For the duration of the Children’s Book Festival we will be sporadically publising a series of posts, where we ask some of our favourite illustrators, designers, photographers, etc about their memories of books from their childhood.
In the first of the series we start with The Cat in the Hat. At the time of its debut in 1957, the Cat was an instant success. This Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel – picture above at his desk) classic is still captivating to children and the adults who read to them. It has everything a classic needs — a great plot, great characters, wonderful illustrations and a unique voice.
