Favourite children’s books…part one
For the duration of the Children’s Book Festival we will be sporadically publising a series of posts, where we ask some of our favourite illustrators, designers, photographers, etc about their memories of books from their childhood.
In the first of the series we start with The Cat in the Hat. At the time of its debut in 1957, the Cat was an instant success. This Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel – picture above at his desk) classic is still captivating to children and the adults who read to them. It has everything a classic needs — a great plot, great characters, wonderful illustrations and a unique voice.

So I thought I wonder what Jon Burgerman - (Illustrator/Toy Designer/Doodler) has to say…
“I can remember really liking the Cat in the Hat Comes Back by Dr Seuss the illustrations were cool and the idea of a colour spreading, pink, across everything, and eventually even the snow really made an impression on me. It was great to think stupid bizarre things could happen in books. Also, for some reason, my Mum hated Dr Seuss books which only fed into my burgeoning rebellious streak and made me like them more.”

What about Cameron Ross (MD, New Media)
“Very early on I was a Dr. Seuss addict, but especially loved ‘Green Eggs and Ham’. His characters are disturbed and the rhyming and illustrations made them fun, like watching a cartoon.”

Thanks for taking part, keep tuned everyone for more updates in this series.
