Favourite Books…part deux!

In the second of an on-going feature we ask some of our favourite illustrators, designers, photographers, etc about their memories of books from their childhood. The above pictured Richard Scarry seems to be a popular choice, with several citing his busy style as influencial as well as immensely enjoyable. Scarry wrote or illustrated over 300 books, selling over 300 million copies worldwide. Typical of Scarry’s drawings is their emphasis on action and minute detail in depicting everyday activities.

After advertising history based posters in History Ireland the publisher, Nick Maxwell asked me to do illustrations for the front cover of his magazine. He had two problems with the front covers previously. Finding existing images that were striking and making sure they didn’t fight with the masthead of the mag. We decided on a trial period to see how it went, 4 issues (This one is the third issue so far and I am currently finishing the fourth).
