Rob Ryan Interview

London based Rob Ryan has created this years Trocaire Christmas gift cards.
We flew the SCAMP jet over to the UK to catch up with him
You have strong Irish ties, do you visit often?
Not particularly. I am at that age where the previous generation are passing and unfortunately most visits to Ireland are for funerals.

Where and when did you study?
I studied fine art at Trent Polytechnic and Printmaking at the RCA. Twenty years ago ….Jakers !

Who are your favourite artists/illustrators alive today?
I am a big fan of the photographer Tim Walker, the painters Martin Grover and Ray Ward, the ceramicist Phil Eglin, the artist Annie Morris is great

What’s your ideal project or commission?
One where I’m left alone to get on with it, where the client appreciates that what I do is best not what they want me to do.

What’s next in the pipeline?
I want to get on with a Children’s book I have been thinking about for a while and whatever the new year brings. I have had an exhausting year and so need a big rest (yawn)
You can see more of Rob’s excellent paper cuts at www.misterrob.co.uk and on his blog
