Roger’s November sketchbook

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

roger o'reillyIllustrator Roger O’Reilly sends us his November Sketchbook for your viewing pleasure. This month he’s paid a visit to Madrid, ‘Hanging around with a bunch of na’er do wells intent on having a good time is not conducive to filling in a sketchbook and it wasn’t until the fug of the weekend began to clear on the Monday morning that I got a chance to exit the bars and wander about the city and do some doodling.’

ivor_02.jpg

Sad news to those of a certain age, of the death of Oliver Postgate at 83. Postgate collaborations with co-creator, artist and animater Peter Firmin on Bagpuss, Ivor The Engine, The Clangers and many more, fueled the imaginations of many children in the 60′s, 70′s and beyond and is a great testament to their craft, dedication and talent. His distintive tone as narrator can instantly whip you back to lying head in hands absorbed in the images on the TV, with no remote control to wrestle your mind away from the clever storylines and incredible artwork. Ah they dont make ‘em like that anymore.

Obituaries in the Guardian, The Times and a nice selection of rememberances also in the Guardian.

With no new Wallace & Gromit on our screens this christmas it’s a great opportunity for the birth of a new classic. Channel Four are broadcasting a 25 min adaptation of Oliver Jeffers’ award winning children’s book Lost And Found on Christmas Eve and repeated on Stephens Day.

It’s a co-production between the excellent Studio AKA and Contender Entertainment and has been adapted and directed by Philip Hunt. You can see some stills here where you can also check back for a trailer sometime soon.
