New picture book course

Illustrator Adrienne Geoghegan will be working with Independent College this year to present a course all about picture book writing and illustrating. Workshop – Illustrating Illustration Exhibition

Last 19th July, to complement the contents of the Illustrating Illustration Exhibition a workshop/talk took place in gallery no. 72 in Kilkenny. It was undertaken by curator and IGI member Alé Mercado. The idea was to explain further the principles of the exhibition by showing some illustration work from concept to final production. (more…)

Steven Heller interviews Mark T. Smith, the official US illustrator for the Olympics ’08. Great idea. Somehow I doubt if we’ve got an ‘official’ Irish illustrator for this years Olympics but hey it’s not too late for someone to step up and be the unofficial one?

Gold & Bronze for Ireland

The London College of Communications was the venue for the Association of Illustrators (AOI) Images 32 awards night and exhibition launch last Tuesday, July 29th.

The AOI offered a warm welcome to the IGI, represented on the night by Scalder and Scamp’s very own Steve Simpson, who walked away with The Gold Award in the Design and New Media category for his illustration work for gourmet pie outlet Pure Pie. (more…)

Slant exhibition: Ormeau Baths Gallery

Slant, The latest exhibition by members of Illustrators Ireland opened last night in the Ormeau Baths Gallery Belfast and runs until 27th September. The theme of the exhibition asked illustrators to reinterpret a work by one of their favourite artists. We’ll be posting all the entries from the exhibition next week, but here’s PJ Lynch creating his contribution based on Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’.
