Ronnie Drew RIP

Legendary Irish folk singer and musician Ronnie Drew died on 16/08/2008. At Scamp central we decided to ask fellow illustrators to put down a few marks to commemorate the great man’s death.

What a great collection in memory of the Dublin Troubadour.
There’s a ready-made series for an illustrated (charity?) calendar, with one used on a cover.

[...] The fabulous Scamp.ie has a whole rake of illustrations to mark the passing of Ronnie Drew. Really excellent work. This is my favourite. It’s by Jonathan McHugh. His website is here. [...]

Ronnie Drew was the greatest living Irishman. Miles of smiles and, too, in these illustrations. Excellent. God Bless Ronnie and Deirdre Drew.

Beautiful tributes to a truly amazing man. I listen to him everyday now, singing Easy and Slow.
The man lived the life, was a narky bollocks (I can testify to this!), put on a brilliant show, drank with the best (and probably the worst!) of them, spoke his mind, had a heart of gold and a voice that will never be matched. He was ten times punker than whatevers in the NME and ten times more Dublin than Daniel O Connells statue if they attsched it to the Ha’penny Bridge and flew a blue flag of the top of it.
Every time I walk by (or into) O’ Donoghues, I think of the man, the voice, and the city thats lost.
Dublins son, the Irish Rover, and a true character.
