Following on from yesterday’s post here’s an short youtube documentary about Niamh Sharkey’s children’s books (Directed by Estelle Barrett Morgan).

IGI member Niamh Sharkey has an upcoming show of her striking re-working of the classic Cinderella fairy-tale in The Illustration Cupboard in London. Alongside Niamh’s vibrant and colourful oil-on-gesso artwork there will be original research photos and working drawings showing the great inspiration for this book of renaissance French architecture, fashion and dress. The New Yorker has an interview with illustrator Noma Bar who uses pictograms to illustrate portaits of the famous. There is also a book called ‘Guess Who? The Many Faces of Noma Bar‘ you can check out.
Well summer’s over and it’s time to show off those sketchbooks. Kilkenny based Illustrator Alejandro Mercado sent us this video of his September sketchbook.

As he is a regular visitor to Dublin, chances are you might have seen Jon Burgerman do one of his ‘famous’ live doodling sessions or maybe heard him speak at a SweetTalk event, perhaps when purchasing your materials in O’Sullivans Graphics you might have noticed his drawings on your paper bag? Basically he is bleedin’ everywhere! If he wasnt such a nice guy it would be quite easy to hate him with a passion. Well now he has an amazing new book out designed by Dublin’s own Unthink and published by IDN.

This website has a fascinating history of medical ex-voto paintings. An ex-voto is a votive offering to a saint or divinity. Ex-votos are placed in a church or chapel where the worshipper seeks grace or wishes to give thanks.

Big Bank Ltd is for all the disgruntled worker bees, militant cubicle dwellers and round pegs in square holes who, on a weekly basis, exist in the hypocrisy and stupidity of the corporate world. Written by Willzy (a current Big Bank Ltd-ish employee) and illustrated by Paul O’Flanagan, it is a satirical look into the weekly occurences in the Big Bank Ltd building.
