Last of the Summer Wine

IGI illustrator Kevin McSherry on his recent wine label project.
I recently completed an illustration project for Brandever, the specialist brand developers for the global wine industry. Brandever wished to create a series of circa 1900′s fruit wine labels that celebrate the old fashioned style of Fruit Crate Label art.

With ten different wines currently in production at this winery, each line would feature a different illustration produced by nine different illustrators, other than me.

This blueberry dessert wine, called Sweet Nothings, obviously suggested a love theme and I sketched out various ‘love’ scenarios, including a Romeo and Juliette scene and swans, the symbol of fidelity.

Lovely commission Kevin and great to see your ideas behind the final piece. Had you got a favourite concept? I’d say the couple with the flower would have also made a great finished piece .
Theres a whole story going on in that one.
Top work.

A cheeky little item from the southern slopes of Terenure. Delicate and sweet with a fruity aftertaste.
Hope the research was as much fun as doing the commission.
Nice one Kev

That’s a fab job, Kevin.
I love the expression on the left bird’s face. The plumage is also really well done- you can practically feel it.

Thank you guys. I didn’t get any of the wine -I didn’t even get a pint of plain. My favourite concept was the the swans -I liked the idea of the dark water and the effect of ripples on the reflections. As for the research -well, we can all go and do a bit of that kind of research next Wednesday in the Odeon Bar!
