Sadie the Airmail Pilot is a new book from Kellie Strøm, formerly based in Ireland. Kellie will be exhibiting 24 original paintings from the picture book in the Post Museum in Helsinki from January 14th until March 15th.

Just One More Book is a thrice-weekly podcast run by Andrea Ross & Mark Blevis which promotes and celebrates children’s books. In the latest offering they are in conversation with David A. Carter about his career as Paper Engineer (he designs pop up books), author and illustrator.

In another recent edition Mark speaks with author/illustrator Peggy Collins and Agent Kendra Marcus about their private meeting in which Kendra reviewed and commented on Peggy’s latest project.

Free Art Friday is a relatively new art movement that’s rapidly gaining in popularity around the World. Artists create a painting, sketch, sculpture or installation and leave it on the street. The piece can then be picked up by anyone and claim it as their own. Finders are encouraged to email the artist and tell them how and where they found it. Free Art Friday are asking all painters, photographers, illustrators, sculptures, graffiti artists, taggers, cartoonists or any visual artist to contribute a small piece of work that will be hung/placed/or left on the streets of Dublin on Friday 23rd January for anyone to take away.

Boing Boing has a nice little recent post on Maurice Sendak’s 2006 book Mommy. Here’s a page on the creation of the book, made with pop up maestro Matthew Reinhart. And here’s a video on the pop-up books of Robert Sabuda & Matthew Reinhart. This should be Sendak’s year if Dave Eggers and Spike Jones’ live action version of ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ finally appears.
