For this month’s sketchbook, Brian Fitzgerald takes us on an illustrated history of the bit that protects your tackle, the saddle.

To celebrate the launch of the new Candy, let’s dip into their archive for an interview I conducted with legendary Irish illustrator Brian Cronin way back in early 2007 in Candy issue 6 – The Craft Issue

Now the snow has melted and Spring is in the air, our favourite creatures are stirring from their long hibernation…yes that’s right – CandyCollective have launched a brand new issue of Candy Magazine.

From the horses mouth – “Yes, that’s right, a new PDF! A little slimmer and tighter perhaps, but we took up walking in an effort to tackle that little pot belly we grew over Christmas and in the process had some ideas for a new issue.

The same high quality interviewees, visual content and engaging stories you’ve come to expect. We have exclusive work featured by the already legendary Alex Trochut, Samantha ZaZa, Alex Gross, Chris Ro and many others.

Designed by our guest designers ‘Makeitwork’ from Dublin, we’re very excited to hear what you think. Go on, download it now and let us know what you think!”

It was an honor to have one of my illustrations, Mr Brown selected for inclusion in the 51st annual and exhibition. I was truly inspired by the standard of the work on show, much of it from some of the biggest names in illustration today.
