up pre production artwork

I finally got to see Pixar’s Up in the cinema on Saturday (just in the knick of time before it leaves the cinema) and I was blown away. As usual Pixar did a fantastic job of making a film that’s both visually stunning but also has a great story. The art books that Pixar produce in conjunction with their films are beautiful lavish tomes but I have not seen one for Up yet. In the meantime concept artist Lou Romano has posted lots of his amazing development & production work from 2005-2008 on his blog.

Up starts great and looks amazing throughout but as usual with a PIXAR movie the ‘baddie’ is terrible. Lou Ramano is GREAT though, i got a bit obsessed with him and his blog since i saw his prep work in The Art Of The Incredibles by Chronicle Books, love him

I really enjoyed UP too but i’d kind of agree with Bren about the weak baddie. You should check out the Ancient book of myth and war which has some very nice Romano stuff:

Although it seems to be out of print. Bren your welcome to borrow it from me if you want!

Up is one of the bast animation that I’ve seen lately! I can’t wait for the next Pixar thing coming up… in December?
