Adrienne Geoghegan’s illustration Courses

IGI member Adrienne Geoghegan is very busy. Her very successful illustration courses and illustration bootcamp are happening soon again this year.

Make sure you check them out.

PICTURE BOOK WRITING & ILLUSTRATION COURSE

Adrienne Geoghegan Picture Book Course starts again this September. The current course is producing some promising new talent!
An exciting mixture of students meet every Friday night to create their own mini masterpieces.  Adrienne will also partake in a one day seminar presented by CBI and SCBWI on the 11th Sept Between the Lines, delivering an illustration technique workshop for budding illustrators of  children’s picture books. See www.childrensbooksireland.ie

This course is suitable for aspiring, beginners or emerging children’s writers and illustrators. It will particularly suit those with a love of children’s literature & art, and enthusiasm to learn more. During the course you will receive an overview of the many components of children’s literature and illustration. A good understanding of the relationship between image and text is vital to the success in creating children’s picture books.  It is important to feel comfortable with drawing. An ability with at least one colour medium is important. It will appeal to people with a professional or general art background, who enjoy picture making. The approach will emphasise sequence, pace, continuity, design, and layout. The course concentrates on moulding your existing techniques to fit the children’s book market, and encourages students to develop their own individuality and imagination. The aim is to increase both experimentation and professionalism. You might have some great ideas, but how do you go about writing & illustrating a children’s picture book? Part lecture, part workshop, this course will take you through the process of writing, editing, illustration, experimentation, and finally submitting a children’s picture book to publishers.

BY THE END OF THIS COURSE YOU WILL HAVE:
Created a Picture Book Dummy & manuscript ready for submission to prospective publishers, or to include in your portfolio as a demonstration of your capabilities.

ILLUSTRATION BOOT CAMP no 5 continues on ‘Illustration Friday’ nights!

Adrienne Geoghegan continues with her sell-out course 5th ILLUSTRATION BOOT CAMP this September. As before, this illustration book camp for is for ALL visual artists. The last five courses were 12 weeks long, but not long enough was the consensus of many!  So back by demand, and with a greater stretch of time (24 weeks)!
This course will especially appeal to those who wish to spend time on personal illustration projects, to those who want to build a strong illustration portfolio, and to visual art practitioners who have an interest in pursuing a career in illustration, either part or full time. The main purpose of illustration is to enhance or augment the written word with an image, and this course is designed as a kind of ‘boot camp’ for ALL practicing visual artists. So far we have had participants, who are practicing graphic designers, fine artists, visual art students, architects, designers, tattooists, animators, and those who want to explore illustration further. Not everyone has a visual arts degree, but most have, or at least some further education in the arts. Over 24 weeks (almost 7 months with breaks) artists will develop their practice, plus broaden and further cultivate their illustration skills in a relaxed and creative environment. There will be discussions, themed projects, critiques, and ‘hands on’ productivity. We will investigate different approaches to problem solving while cultivating our conceptual skills using a variety of media. Projects are fun and relevant to the industry.

FEES: 780 euro for the 24 weeks. (incl. time off over Christmas and mid-terms)
DATES & TIMES: Every Friday evening 6.30pm to 9pm from Sept 3rd 2010.
VENUE: The Garden Art Room, Carmelite Centre, 56 Aungier Street, Dublin 2
