The New York Times has announced plans to feature an online-only review of a new picture book each week – that will supplement the papers already regular coverage of picture books.

Creative Review’s second Illustration Annual is now open for entries. The selected work will appear in the July 2011 issue of the magazine. The deadline for work is March 10 and the fee is £40. More details here.

IGI member Brian Gallagher is currently showcasing a collection of his scraperboards in Ranelagh, Dublin.
This highly original drawing process sees the artist begin with a black board and gradually remove parts of it’s thin dark surface to reveal the white china clay beneath.
Brian was born in Newcastle upon Tyne but has lived in Ireland for the past 14 years.

Only found out recently that Chris Ware created a poster for the Thai film ‘Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives’ (last year’s Palme d’Or winner). You can watch the trailer here.
My obsession of the week comes from the very excellent Olly Moss – it’s Wolverine. No wait, it’s two batmen.

‘The Story of Ireland’, a major five-part series presented by journalist and author Fergal Keane, begins on RTÉ One tonight at 10:15pm. Keep your eye out for the work of Illustrators Ireland member David Rooney who has created ninety scraperboard illustrations for the series.
