‘Independents’ Day is a D.I.Y. fair of zines, records, comics and info stalls with workshops, screenings, performances and exhibitions. It takes place this Sunday 7th November at the Dublin Food Co-Op. The above poster (one of many made for the fair this year) is by Paddy Lynch and you can find more details about the event here.

Empire has the exclusive on the sublime international teaser art for Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, not set for cinema release here until Feb 2011. You can see the other posters here.

David-Wasting-Paper is a great blog that surveys cartoonists across the world on their drawing habits. Everyone from Adrian Tomine to Patricia Storms are here and last week it was the turn of IGI member Fintan Taite.

Punt, edited by Emma Somers, is a new platform for narrative journalism in Ireland, providing critical but optimistic analysis, along with a healthy dose of the arts, photography and illustration, interviews and satire. The October issue is out now at a cost of €2 featuring an utterly brilliant cover by Mr. Steve McCarthy as well as contributions from comics creators Luke F, Pablo Mayer and Eoin Ryan. For a list of places you can pick it up, click here.

Ray Burke hosts The Artists Space – a new radio programme that debuted on 103.2 Dublin City fm last week. The show will focus on artists working, living and exhibiting in Dublin and will feature previews and reviews of events, exhibitions and installations, as well as profiles of artists. Last weeks show featured an interview with Alan Clarke which you can listen to here. The second in the series broadcasts today (Oct 14th) at 1pm. You can tune in to the wireless or stream online here.

UK based artist Stanley Chow has created a wonderful series of celebrity and pop culture portraits.

I was saddened to hear that cartoonist (not to mention children’s book author, performer and playwright) Stuart Hample passed away last Sunday. Briefly an assisant to Al Capp, Hample created the syndicated comic strip Inside Woody Allen, that ran from 1976 to 1984. He also created the strip Rich and Famous under the pseudonym Joe Marthen. Interviewed last year on Inkstuds, Hample gave some great insights into his cartooning as well as some cracking anecdotes. You can listen here.

In association with OFFSET 2010, “The Loons Have Looned Their Last” is an exhibition of new work by Alan Clarke. This wondrous spectacle of the arts will take place, for one single day only, on Sunday the 26th of September, 2 – 8 pm, at No. 13 North Great Georges Street, Dublin. All are welcome, none will be disappointed maybe.

Scott Pilgrim – an awesome comic and now an awesome film – is now the subject of even awesomer (forgive me) illustrated posters. The first was created by Martin Ansin, signed by many of the cast of the film and limited to 565 (including its variant) but, as you can imagine, it’s now sold out. Ansin also created the stunning poster for last years Stanley Kubrick exhibition at the Light House cinema, Smithfield.
