hollywood babylon exhibition tonight

Tonight (Thursday 8th December), Hollywood Babylon, Dublin’s Midnight Movie Film Club, is hosting an exhibition of re-imagined movie posters at 6.30pm at Block T in Smithfield, Dublin. The strictly limited screenprinted versions of the posters from the movie nights are up for show and purchase including Philip Barrett’s version of the Crank 2 Poster above. It’s free in and there will be drinks, music, popcorn and fun.

Only found out recently that Chris Ware created a poster for the Thai film ‘Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives’ (last year’s Palme d’Or winner). You can watch the trailer here.
David Rooney Illustrates the Story of Ireland

‘The Story of Ireland’, a major five-part series presented by journalist and author Fergal Keane, begins on RTÉ One tonight at 10:15pm. Keep your eye out for the work of Illustrators Ireland member David Rooney who has created ninety scraperboard illustrations for the series.

DeviantART recently launched a competition inviting artists to envision the cover for a digital motion comic “Inception – The Big Under” – a prequel to the Christopher Nolan film. The entries for the competition (now closed) can be seen here. The above entry is by by Sachin Teng.

scott pilgrim vs. martin ansin

Scott Pilgrim – an awesome comic and now an awesome film – is now the subject of even awesomer (forgive me) illustrated posters. The first was created by Martin Ansin, signed by many of the cast of the film and limited to 565 (including its variant) but, as you can imagine, it’s now sold out. Ansin also created the stunning poster for last years Stanley Kubrick exhibition at the Light House cinema, Smithfield.

By now most people will be familiar with Josh Cooley, a story artist at Pixar, who has, since 2008, been posting wonderful drawings on his blog for an “Inappropriate Golden Book for Kids” where famous movie scenes are given the children’s book treatment. Now two years later he’s finally compiled them, along with some new ones into a book called Movies R Fun! due out later this summer.
