A quick mention for Roddy Doyle’s creative writing centre Fighting Words which opened this month in Dublin and is eager for creative volunteers. Taking its inspiration from David Eggers’ 826 Valencia, the centre pairs volunteer professional writers with local children. While there doesn’t seem to be a plan as yet for a pirate shop or superhero store as in the US versions, it sounds like an exciting project. Here’s Eggers’ TED talk on the project. Illustrators Ireland is hoping to help out. Here’s Monday’s Irish Times article on the centre.

Isabel Reyes Feeney is the latest illustrator to join Illustrators Ireland. Born and educated in Dublin, Isabel currently lives in Madrid Spain. You may be familiar with her work on the covers of band artwork for the likes of Republic of Loose and Chicks. She will also be working with the Tiny Little Horse Collective on upcoming projects. Slant Exhibition

Slant, the latest IGI exhibition, is currently showing at the renowned Ormeau Baths Gallery in Belfast. It runs until the 27th of September and features the work of 18 IGI members with a peculiar brief: re-interpret your favourite painting.

Slant opened last 31st July in Belfast running alongside two other exhibitions: Images 31 from the Association of Illustrators in the UK and Last Riot from the collective AES+F who were headlining the opening after their great success in last year’s Venice Biennale. They were three very different exhibitions in a very different space. (more…)
