Sign Painters: The Movie
Tuesday, March 5th, 2013Lettering fans, this one’s for you..

Two guys – Austin Richards (an Art Director in Dublin) and Des Creedon (a Copywriter in Galway) – have done a series of movie posters – but the movies are missing one letter. They’ve called them ‘Removies’ and they are both great looking, and funny.
They are for sale as prints and you can see the whole collection here.
Lovely stuff…

I’ve seen a top secret list of names, a list containing a few of the most interesting and creative people this island has to offer, a list of people taking part in a fund raising effort by the good folk at Damn Fine Print studio. Damn Fine want to create an inclusive, quality screen printing workshop & studio. They asked the creatives they admire most to submit a two colour poster inspired by “Damn Fine Dublin” and they will screen print them. 30 posters, €30 a pop, edition of 30. Exhibition on 6th December in BLOCK T Smithfield. They asked them, and they said yes, now they’re asking you. your going to want to be on this list. further details here – DAMN FINE DUBLIN EXHIBITION
Fuschia MacAree has been releasing a barrage of rebloggable illustrations in the past few months, but my current obsession is her Untranslatable Alphabet – 26 letters representing words that can’t be translated from one language to another. Really great concept and even better execution, as usual.

The alphabet is available as a set on A2 posters on her online shop, printed on 170gsm matte paper.

Only found out recently that Chris Ware created a poster for the Thai film ‘Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives’ (last year’s Palme d’Or winner). You can watch the trailer here.

The Irish Times writes on US Illustrator Owen Smith’s recent poster for the Druid’s production of The Silver Tassie.

Recent renovations at London’s Notting Hill gate tube station have uncovered many illustrated mid century posters still in situ, including works by Daphne Padden. Check out the discoveries on flickr here.

Tiny Little Horse presents an exhibition and indeed a celebration of their poster work for CSS, Morrissey, Flight Of The Conchords, Battles and many more.
Also featuring original artwork and ‘hopefully’ some live screen printing.
Tiny Little Horse features the work of Gav Beattie and IGI members BRENB and Chris Judge.
Opening Launch is from 7PM, March 11th at The Shaw Space in The Bernard Shaw and runs for 2 weeks.
From The Small Print:
“We were delighted to be able to help out The Poster Cause in their fund raising for the disaster in Haiti by getting some of our friends to donate some wonderful art like the above example by Nathan Jurevicius. Others by Jon Burgerman, Massimo Vignelli, Sergio Mora, Steve Simpson, Nora Krug, Serge Seidlitz, Build, Conor&David and more.
Please support this endeavour and get yourself some cheap as chips posters!“
